👋 Hey there! Georgia here from Josephmark – a digital ventures practice based in Brisbane, Australia.
We’ve just launched Vest – a brand-new way to see which Aussie startups are generating the most buzz online. With our government’s renewed focus on innovation, we felt it was time to highlight the startups that are putting us on the map, making us leaders in our fields, and driving both economical and cultural growth.
Vest was inspired by Product Hunt and Crunchbase, as well as previous projects of ours like We Are Hunted – a trending music chart we co-founded in 2008 that scoured the internet for new music mentions, rather than sales (and was acquired by Twitter in 2013). And our minimalist news catch-up platform Hash, which aggregates popular tweets about the day’s most talked about stories.
We’d love to know what you guys think of Vest.

I said it on Twitter and I'll say it again here: what an awesome, awesome website! Hopefully this'll kickstart some great international buzz about Australia's thriving startup economy :)
Thanks @jordsta! Glad to hear you're enjoying Vest! We echo your sentiments and hope this is just the beginning of a flourishing startup culture in Australia. :)
@saijo_george hey Saijo, do you mean as well as startups? Right now, we have a checklist in place that each startup needs to meet. It’s threefold: the idea must have started in Australia, use tech to solve a problem, and the real bottom line is – is it adding value to Australia? If it’s helping our economy and creating jobs, then it gets a big tick from us.
@saijo_george that's a great point, thanks Saijo! It's definitely something we need to make more clear. We've put it on our to-do list for Vest's next iteration. If you've got any further feedback, we'd love to hear it! Thanks again!
Go Aussie! Great design, and quality selection of Australian startups to begin with. I found a few there that I hadn't heard of, and a few others that I didn't even know where Australian!
Thanks, @mrmikehalligan! Appreciate the feedback! We're definitely looking forward to watching which new startups make noise in the coming weeks – should be interesting!
@nklsksr Thanks Nikolaus. We looked at existing platforms like AngelList and CrunchBase, but it was hard to get excited about anything on there. We want to create something that feels like a showcase and celebration of great Australian ideas.
