Hide menu bar icons on your Mac for free

get it

Vanilla is an app for macOS that hides menu bar icons on your Mac.

  • Pros:

    - reduce clutter on menu bar

    - easy access to app icons just by hovering

    - can also easily remove icons

    - app is unobtrusive

    - very specific and niche offering

The creator of the app, Matt, is really awesome! Fantastic customer support.

He also has a really cool emoji / gif shortcut app for Mac. Been loving both of these apps.

works great, minimal, very well thought out, free/very cheap!

    nothing yet!

Just bought Pro yesterday, it's SO much better than bartender! No complicated menu and options, just a very straight forward way of covering/hiding menu icons!! Love it so much and it's only 5€ for pro, basic functionality for free!! 😍 Thanks for making this dev!!

Oh man, this needs to be build into macOS natively!

Bought instantly, thought a lot about buying bartender but $3,80 was a no-brainer for me. UX to remove icons was a bit weird

@soffes Thanks so much Sam! (Personal tangent—no one else read this. The episodes of Founders Talk you did with Dan on 5by5 like five years ago were super influential for me in getting into programming and making stuff. This is a very cool moment.)
Nice one! Glad to see some competition to Bartender. Although I'll keep using it while my license is valid :)
