I was frustrated with existing file converters—cluttered interfaces, ads, slow uploads, and privacy concerns. I wanted a fast, private, on-device solution that doesn’t send files to servers. Most converters upload your files to their servers, exposing business secrets, personal images, and sensitive documents. Trustfile converts everything 100% offline—images, audio, video, documents, and PDFs—using WebAssembly and FFmpeg. Your files never leave your device. We built a modular converter system, added batch processing, and kept privacy as the priority. The result: a fast, private, beautiful file converter that keeps your data safe.

Love the privacy-first angle, @taiwo_hassan_yusuf! Congrats on the launch. What tradeoffs have you run into? What's the performance consistency like across devices?

Taiwo Hassan Yusuf

Hey @bekahhw!

Thanks so much for the kind words.

Honestly, the main tradeoff is that performance really depends on your device. Since everything runs locally and nothing gets uploaded to our servers, you're limited by your own hardware. If you've got a decent GPU (NVIDIA, AMD, or Apple Silicon), things run pretty fast. On my M1 Mac, video conversions are surprisingly quick. But on older or lower-end devices without GPU support, it falls back to CPU processing which can be a tad slower, especially for video work.

Performance consistency across devices is definitely variable. We use native binaries with GPU acceleration when available and fallback to WebAssembly which is slower but works anywhere.

Any feedback would be appreciated.

This looks really nice, Taiwo. I love that it's not just a web page; it's actually a native application.

What future features will be possible with image conversion? For example, I've got 20 images and I want them all to be 500 pixels wide and converted to PNG. Would that be possible in the future?

Taiwo Hassan Yusuf

@justin_noel, Thank you very much.

Its possible right now. However, I could improve on the batch operations feature. Multiple files, 1 operation.

I also have a plan to add more features like Text insert, basic filters to images. Watch out.

What other features would you like to see?

Justin Noel

I've got the app installed and am already using it for converting some website images.

It's great that it's a native app versus an Electron app. I see you made it with Tauri. I've always wanted to try to make something with Tauri. How was the experience? Are you happy with it?
