Hi everyone 👋 I built Tooboo because I was frustrated using outdoor apps that still depended heavily on the phone. When hiking or cycling, I wanted my Apple Watch to be enough. But most apps treat the watch as a secondary screen. I kept pulling out my phone to check maps — which defeated the point. So I decided to try building a navigation experience that runs independently on Apple Watch. The hardest part wasn’t building features. It was designing for constraints: - How do you make a map readable on such a small screen? - How do you balance performance and battery? - How do you reduce visual noise while still showing enough information? I ended up writing a lightweight vector map engine for watchOS and iterating obsessively. Over the past year, I shipped 100+ updates, mostly based on real user feedback. This isn’t my first Apple Watch app. My previous app, YaoYao - Jump Rope, was featured 90+ times on the App Store, and that experience shaped how I approached Tooboo — slow refinement over feature explosion.
