It's not about getting more done — it's about getting the right things done well. You can accomplish anything as long as you stay focused on your goals. Use a todo app that makes you say "no" to the small things, so you can say "yes" to the big things!
👋 Hello Product Hunters,
I’m David, indie maker of TodoPal, a todo app that helps you stay focused on big projects.
I've used a lot of productivity apps and learned that the ones that stick with me help me set big goals and work towards them slowly. Six years ago I set out to build my first startup and the hardest part was staying focused long-term. But, when I did stick it through, the results multiplied into new life and business opportunities!
⛈ The Problem:
Most todo apps make me feel good about checking off any old todo — not just the ones that count. As a founder and maker, the most important thing for me is getting the right things done — not just getting more things done. So I started thinking: how can I weigh my tasks against each other and only focus on the most important ones?
✅ TodoPal's Solution:
A simple, text-based todo list that splits your tasks into weeks — and forces you to choose which tasks will make it into this week and which ones have to be pushed to next week or 😵 the week after next week. I've found that forcing these hard decisions early makes me take a step back and refocus on what I really want to be doing with my time!
This app was built with love for solo startup founders, makers, and leaders who want to accomplish the impossible, but just need the ability to focus to get there!
Special thanks to @yodanparry, @xianmingchen, @nikita_jerschow1, @eduardosasso, @ramzesenok, @thomas_sanlis1, @charlierward, @justindiamondhq for cheering me on and giving me feedback as I built this out.
I hope you enjoy it! And I’m looking forward to your feedback.
How do you stay focused on your big, long-term goals?
Leave a comment below and perhaps I'll add it as a feature to TodoPal! ❤️
Alright, I was skeptical when I saw the screenshots here, the website, and the fact that the getting started guide is a PDF instead of a webpage (???) BUT after signing up I’m quite intrigued.
I’ve long realized that to do list apps aren’t very helpful to me because it’s easy to keep adding tasks and then there’s so many that you can’t get yourself started. Some to do apps let you specify how long you think the task will take, but it’s still hard to visualize your week and it takes too long to create a damn task.
TodoPal solves this issue because each line of text = one todo and you just add “3 hr” to tell it it’s gonna take 3 hours, for example. There’s even a default (2 hr) so it’s even faster to jot down some todos and get a rough idea of how long it’ll take you to complete them all.
Some areas that could be improved:
1. Functionality
- “Each week has only 24 precious hours” → Love this, and love that you can edit it. Thing is, today it’s Wednesday, so if 1 full week has X hours, and this week is half over, then I should only have X/2 or so hours remaining, not a full 24 hours!
- On the top right of each week I can see the total hours of tasks I’ve recorded and the “completed” hours. Can you also tell me how many hours are left? I know it’s simple math but it’s more convenient to just see the number.
2. Design
- It works but it ain’t very nice to look at. It doesn’t need to win any design awards, but a little could go a long way.
- It would be quite helpful to see your week at a glance if todos/lines where styled automatically. For example:
• done tasks = different color or strikethrough text
• tasks with no time = grayed out
• duration = different color or font weight
I really think this is a great idea and can go a long way with some more love!

Follow up… I tried logging in in from another device and it’s telling me “Invalid username or password“. I‘m using a password manager so I’m sure my password is right and my username is just “Anna” — I can even see it as part of the URL when I’m logged in!
I clicked on “Forgot Password” and it tells me “User not found” :/ Now that‘s definitely not true because I’m logged in on my other device and can literally see my username!
I can only guess that this is a problem with Remake 2.0, also made by the ?makers, which handles the authentication.
Now I can’t logout because I won’t be able to log back in… Unless it’s not possible to be logged in from two separate instances? In any case, this is a really bad experience and it’s not making Remake look very good either.
Ok, I had mixed feelings.
First one, uh another Todo, but I like the logo.
Second. The website is ugly af dude wow.
Then I though, if this person took the time to post it in PH and do a long video is because they believe it. Okay, let's check the video.
Third feeling. Wtf that video intro is strange, kinda awkward.
But! The moment you begin to show the app etc it starts to makes sense and I think you had a really good Idea and it is a super good mvp to start from. I'll take a look into it.
Good luck!
