Seriously, Tidal is an awakening. I do a lot of dev work and have my cans on for 8-10 hours a day. The difference is tactile and vast. I am smitten.

I'm fascinated by these music companies trying to sell higher quality audio. Is there really a market for this? Is Neil Young and his Pono player on to something? Or... not?

@chrismessina I buy music from HDTracks and I buy concerts in 24 bit FLAC format. It does make a difference if you are listening through relatively good headphones or speakers (nothing insanely expensive). Is there a market for it? Not really. Like higher resolution video, once it becomes standard then people will enjoy it, but only the hard core will pay a premium for it.

@jlax yeah, that's my sense. Who funds these projects in the meantime though?

@chrismessina @jlax Well HDTracks is focussed at a niche audience of audiophiles and is owned by Chesky Records. I bet it turns a modest profit. the Nugs.net guys who do the Live Phish and other band related live concerts offer a range of quality. As for these streaming services. Not sure.
