The Fault in Our Stars by John Green is about as different as you can get. A movie adaption just came out which I haven't seen. The story follows a pair of teenagers wrestling with cancer. It avoids romance tropes by tackling issues that few are willing to talk about in a voice that is raw, honest, and irreverent. The book is touching, surprising, and powerful.

What a beautiful book. I am a physician (resident planning on going into oncology) and this book really brings out the beauty of living life meaningfully even as a young teenager, because you have the perspective of knowing the limits of your lifespan.
