The Cipher Lab

The Cipher Lab

A modern playground for classical cryptography.

Existing sites offer all the same basic tools, which is fine, but I wanted to offer something more- something it felt like a real cryptanalyst could and would use, but still accessible even to absolute beginners. The Cipher Lab offers a comprehensive environment to learn about, solve and create your own ciphers. For beginners and experienced cryptanalysts.

I built The Cipher Lab because most cryptography tools fall into one of two camps:
either sites that don’t scale beyond basic tools, or academic tools that are powerful but painful to use.

I wanted something different — a place where you can actually think like the world's top cryptanalysts but accessible to beginners.

The Cipher Lab lets you:

Decode and break classical ciphers interactively

Work in persistent Labs with notes, hypotheses, and tools side-by-side (Which is important, because if you've ever long haul solved a cipher, you know how annoying constantly switching between tabs and tools and notes is)

Tackle weekly cipher challenges and track progress

Go deeper with Pro features like advanced analysis, cloning, and exports

This started as a personal tool for solving ciphers properly — keeping context, experimenting freely, and not losing work — and evolved into a full platform for learners, puzzle solvers, and anyone curious about how ciphers really work.

I’d love feedback from the community:

What cipher tools do you wish existed?

What feels confusing or missing?

Thanks for checking it out — and happy decoding
