For as long as I can remember, I’ve been fascinated by the rise and fall of nations—how lines drawn on a map can define identities, opportunities, and limitations. Nationalism has shaped much of our history, but as I reflect on the future, I see an increasingly borderless world—a world where the concept of “passport strength” seems both arbitrary and outdated. I’ve been lucky. As an English citizen, my passport opens doors that others can only dream of. But why should that determine someone’s access to opportunity or safety? Over the past four years as a digital nomad, I’ve lived and worked in Bali. It was here that I joined Pangea, a startup backpacking brand with a mission to transcend borders and connect people globally. Pangea’s ethos resonated with me deeply. Living on an island surrounded by travellers and expats, I witnessed firsthand how communities could flourish when borders became irrelevant when people shared ideas, passions, and cultures freely. Yet, the world doesn’t always work this way. Events like COVID-19, rising political tensions, and natural disasters reminded me of how fragile our security really is. These moments planted a seed: What if we all had a “Plan B”? What if we had the freedom to choose where to live, raise our families, or find safety—not based on the passport we hold, but on the life we want to build? This is why I started this business. I wanted to create more options for people—to give families and individuals a future that isn’t dictated by the luck of their birthplace. It’s not just about migration or investment; it’s about ensuring that people can thrive in an unpredictable world. Looking ahead, my dream is to take this vision one step further: to one day create a community with friends and like-minded individuals. Together, we’d build a school where we, as parents, take turns teaching what we’re passionate about—sharing our skills, experiences, and dreams with our children. It would be a place where education is truly a community effort, a testament to the values of connection and borderless living that started this journey in the first place. This business is the first step toward that future—toward building a world where freedom, opportunity, and security are not privileges, but choices.
