I was a long time @Bartender 5 user, but left after the acquisition. I tried several open source alternatives, including @Ice (which is what Thaw forked) but couldn't get it to work.
Hoping Thaw is the Bartender successor I've been seeking!
Been using Bell for a while, and has a focus steal bug that drives me crazy.
Unfortunately i can't get it to work on Golden Gate - hope you add support soon!

@ceban_victor Thaw has been supporting Golden Gate since the first beta was released; we are literally at the point of getting rid of every macOS 27 warning or special notice from the repo since it's already compatible.

switched off Bartender a while back after the whole acquisition mess, so an open source alternative that's private by design is exactly the kind of thing I want to trust. rearranging other apps' menu bar icons usually needs Accessibility permission though - curious how you square that with the "nothing ever leaves your Mac" claim, since that permission technically lets an app see a lot more than just icon positions

@galdayan but the data doesn't "leave your Mac" so how is that inconsistent?

@chrismessina fair pushback, you're right that those are two different claims and I conflated them. "nothing leaves your Mac" is about network/exfiltration and that part checks out. what I actually care about is the local access scope - Accessibility lets an app read/control basically anything on screen, not just other apps' menu bar icons, so "in and out" is a bigger ask than it first sounds even if none of it phones home.
