We are Mahamad(@mahamad_charawi) and Abe, founders of Tachyon, a developer-first API that makes big data transfer a breeze. We offer plug-and-play, upload and download APIs that make it easier and faster to move large files around.
In our past lives we saw first hand how much trouble people had moving data. You'd be amazed but many companies still prefer to mail hard drives than try to send something across the internet! If you are a software engineer building for users who regularly need to upload/download large files, the solutions out there for you aren't much better. Tachyon hopes to fix this.
**How does it work?**
We use transport level protocol optimization under the hood and have built a network of servers around the world to be physically closer to your clients, reducing the distance of the first network hop.

@bogomep Great question - we take a look at security from three different perspectives, transport level security, application level security, and corporate firewalls. From a transport level perspective, we use the industry standard TLS library (OpenSSL) to provide perfect forward secrecy for all of our packets. At the application level, we provide full encryption beginning at the upload client library and ending at the download client library, meaning that the data is completely obfuscated the entire time it is traversing our network and is always encrypted at rest while on our drives. Wrt to corporate firewalls we are working on using common hole-punching techniques.
