Had their D2 model for years, but wasn't compatible with the new Macbook Pro design. Immediately bought this new version when it came out because of how effective the D2 model was previously. Literally game changer for CPU performance in my experience. Definitely recommend!

Just picked up the Legacy D1 cooling dock for my aging (but beautiful) 2015 MacBook Pro 15". Let me just say, it's effective. When I'm pushing it, which is most of the time, the MacBook fans are still at full tilt but with the active cooling dock, the CPU doesn't thermally throttle. Prior to this, I was seeing my CPUs thermally throttle down to 800 MHz when under full load and in clamshell mode. Now they settle into a steady 2.0 - 2.5 GHz frequency and can run like that in perpetuity. This has breathed some extra life into this beautiful machine and is well worth the extra money to get a fantastically engineered solution. Not only does it keep things cool, but it keeps the desk organized and looking good too. Will definitely be purchasing one of their later models for my next MacBook, which will likely be running Apple's Silicon.

Update: It was time to move on from my partner in crime, as Apple has finally released a worthy successor. I am now running a 14" M1 Max MacBook Pro and am using the same Svalt Legacy D1 cooling dock with it. I had to modify it slightly to fit the extra Thicc MacBook but it more or less was a drop-in replacement. Moreover, the results are still the same. When in clamshell and pushing it, the M1 chip is still being thermally throttled, but when on the Svalt dock, it doesn't seem to throttle at all and is able to go at full tilt continuously. The throttling is nowhere near what the 2015 was doing, but it is still 10 - 15% difference. I also chatted with the founder, Chad, and he said they are coming out with some new products that are tailor-made for the new Apple Silicon machines, so stay tuned. He also said I could send my existing back for a discount and that improves sustainability, etc. Can't wait. If I remember, I'll post an update here or on a new Product Hunt entry.
