Sometimes you may want to export or edit the subtitling of Youtube videos that you have uploaded or that you're fans of. Before we had the community captions but itβs not available anymore.
The number of platforms for creating subtitles is increasing. But this is the first time I've seen a free product that allows you to retrieve and edit automatic subtitling from Youtube. Can I share my project with other people?

Hello everyone and thank you @tanjum
Do you ever want to subtitle a video already available on Youtube?
Why start from scratch when Youtube has already generated the subtitles for this video?
We have decided to provide a free tool that allows you to download or edit any subtitle available on Youtube.
You can now easily edit the subtitles of your videos or those of your favorite creators. It's also a way to see again the community subtitles that Youtube made disappear some time ago now.
What do you think about it?

I see that you also offer paid automatic subtitling on www.checksub.com. What is the difference between the free downloader and the paid one?

Hello @kateon the downloader allow you to download and edit the subtitles generated by Youtube. Checksub offer a pro version where you can get a better accuracy. We're using the best speech-to-text technology with the Pro version so we will get less edits to do and we will save you a lot of time. You can also use the vocabulary features to add your own custom words to increase the STT accuracy. And last but not least, you can customise and embed your subtitles in the videos with the professional offer.
Love it! How are you getting the subtitles? Using a YouTube endpoint that gives you the transcript or converting the audio to text with some voice to text API?

@matias_tucci the existing API doesn't work (wrong text, wrong timecodes) and the Youtube API limit the number of videos per day. The aim was not to make another speech-to-text processing, we could have done that but then it would not have been free π So we tweak our own system.
So if you want to translate in your language the subtitles of your favorite creator there is no easy way.
Thatβs why we decided to offer you https://download.checksub.com
HOW-TO:
1 - Go on the website download.checksub.com
2 - Paste the URL of the Youtube video
3 - Download the subtitle file (SRT or TXT) in the desired language or edit it
4 - Edit the subtitles on Checksub for Free
5 - Export it.
Karthik here from the Checksub Team. For the one who want to create subtitles with other people, you have the possibility to share your project. It will allow people with the sharing link to open, edit and export your subtitles project.
Itβs a smart idea guys :bulb: It worked perfectly for a video I wanted to translate in my native tongue.

Hi @kaustin we think that everyone should be able to get subtitles in their native tongue. Only 25.9% of the global online population speaks English so getting good foreign subtitles increases your audience.
