I just started learning the ukulele recently and am just about at the level where I think it would be fun to record music with other instruments, Soundtrap lets you do that by plugging in your instrument and collaborating on music with others.

The ambition with Soundtrap is to offer a user-friendly, web-based tool for everyone who wants to jam, record, collaborate with other musicians - and share their music with the world. Soundtrap wants to be a catalyst for spontaneous musical creativity in two ways: by being quick and easy to use and by facilitating match-making and co-creation for musicians and artists. There are still several features to be added, e.g. loops will be added shortly. We're happy to receive your feedback on the site!

I know some guys who were thinking about building something like this! I'll see if I can get them to come ask some questions. They formed a group while roommates and are now bi-coastal. I've also talked with others about a "waveform diff" type function that has all the benefits of source control, but for showing and merging diffs from song segments. In the meantime, I'll give it a shot this month when I get some free time to mix again.
