Snoop

Turn your smartphone into a hidden camera 👀

#2 Product of the DayJuly 07, 2017

Snoop is a really simple app to make use of that old phone/tablet lying around in your house and turn it into a quick & free security camera. You don't need to be the same wireless network for Snoop it work! It’s so easy that even your dog can use it. Put your spare phone to use.. Stop thinking and start snooping!

I'm curious about security. Is the feed encrypted at all? since this doesn't need to be on the same network is there a control server between the two devices?

@tonybrix Hey Tony! Yes and yes - the feed is encrypted by a derivative of SSL and there's a server between the two devices. Hope you like it!

@tonybrix @ehsanatiq "a derivative of SSL"...? Is it open source? What's wrong with stock SSL?

@tonybrix @chrismessina nothing wrong with stock SSL but we chose to implement a DTLS which happens to be a derivative.

Just curious. How much did the license for Snoop Dogg's "Who Am I" cost?
Seth Lehman@seth_lehman
@pawelkadysz it cost nothing. lol.

@seth_lehman it costs nothing or @reachaditya didn't pay anything? Because that's a big difference. I'm just curious, is it CC0? How cheap is it to use this kind of music in commercials.

@seth_lehman @reachaditya @pawelkadysz probably think its small enough that it doesn't matter, but possible trouble if it goes viral.

@ehsanatiq & @reachaditya so? Doesn't have to be the exact number. Just a general range. Was it like $100? or more like $100.000? I'm really curious.

Hello folks, glad to be on PH finally! Excited to share a new product that we've been working on! We've come up with over two weekends precisely.

@reachaditya Any way to contact you about bugs? Instantly crashes on the casting device when the watch device connects to it.

@reachaditya @lindelof Hey Lindelof! Sorry for the trouble - shit happens. Please mail me with details at ehsan@igenero.com. We'll definitely follow through!

So honest question: are the two O's in the logo in your video supposed to be thinly veiled sexual innuendo? In your video you even put a subtle "an app for home security... or maybe not" Maybe it's not intentional, but the marketing makes it seem targeted towards creepers.

@avimuchnick LOL! loving your observation but no sexual innuendo. The O's just seemed a perfect set of eyes which the animated "pupils" later confirm. The word Snoop just had a little whimsical ring to it so we wanted to integrate that into the app as well. Perhaps you want to know who stole that special dessert you've been saving or just a really simple thing like knowing when your coffee is ready. We've had people come up with hilarious applications which don't necessarily fall under home security - hence the maybe not :)
