Hello everyone!
I'm Jimmy, and I built Smolr because I was tired of using online tools to compress images for my websites.
Every time, I would have issues with the existing tools. Most don't support Webp and those who do, did not support batch processing. I also did not like my images being uploaded to a random website to be optimized.
So I made Smolr, a better tool targeted towards my own needs as a web developer.
Smolr does everything locally on your Mac. Drag, drop, convert. That's it.
Tech Stack:
- Swift/SwiftUI for the UI
- Bundled encoders: MozJPEG, libavif, libjxl, WebP, oxipng, pngquant
- All dependencies included in the app
- ~29 dylibs bundled for portability
Huge respect to the open-source community, Smolr is basically UX on top of decades of great work.
The code is on GitHub. You can build it yourself if you want. I added a "pay what you want" option (including $0) for those who want to support development, but it's entirely optional.
