A Slate is a two-door electric pickup truck that’s thoughtfully designed and engineered to be customized again and again to transform into whatever you need it to be, even an SUV. With an expected price of under $20,000*, it’s radically affordable.

I saw Slate make the rounds and was impressed by the pitch.
No frills. No FSD. Barely any cupholders. But also under $20K, with government subsidies (if they stick around).
This is what the Tesla Model 2 could be. Maybe.

Yeah im super psyched on this actually. I've been renting a car in europe for the last few weeks and it is insane to me how many things the car beeps at me about. 1 mph over the speed limit -- beeps. Cross a white line because someone is stalled on the side of the road --beeps. Almost instantly after doing either of those -- beeps and tells me i need a coffee break. Take one hand of the wheel -- beeps (it's a manual transmission!). ... there are more but you get the point. Can you turn them off? yup each one individually. but as soon as you restart the car, they are back!
It feels like some inane manifestation of Goodharts law where the product teams can tout how often their notification "saves me".
I was thinking during this experience, I will forever reject a car with this feature set even if that means driving a 1995 civic in 2040.
I hope no frills, but with electric becomes a product genre, I fully welcome.

Love the modularity! Can't believe it took this long to make a modular car. With this approach, a whole eco system can be spun up. And there isnt one point of failure. With the 100s of EV brands coming out, you just know 90% of them are going to become abandon ware and you wish you bought one of the self-fixable cars instead.
I'm intrigued by its customizable design. An exciting concept! 😄
SLATE seems like a game-changer for folks who dream of owning an electric truck without breaking the bank. A sub-$20,000 two-door truck that can adapt to different uses (even transforming into something closer to an SUV) feels like the kind of innovation that could shake up the market.
If you want to see another bold example of futuristic rugged design, take a look at the cybertruck—it doesn’t try to be cheap, but it pushes the envelope in terms of durability, material choices, and utility in harsh conditions.
