Slouching in front of a computer all day isn’t great for your body and over time can lead to lots of issues. SitApp monitors your posture in real time and reminds you to sit up straight when you start to slouch.

Hey Product Hunters! As a person who uses a computer all day for work, I eventually realised that my poor seated posture was contributing to my chronic back pain issues. Despite my best efforts to consciously correct my posture, I would always somehow slip back to the hunched slouch I was accustomed to. I created SitApp to solve that problem, and also to have a go with a few technologies I was interested in. It's currently free to download and use. I just hope some people will find it useful, and help them to fix their bad backs! There's already a million things I would like to do to improve it, but getting this out there is a big milestone for me 😅 . In future I'd like to team up with some other people to help further improve the design, UX and well, every aspect of it! If you're interested in teaming up to help take it to the next level, please get in touch.

@ali_sitapp @stefaanna Yeah, you're right. We have to prioritize health.

@savian_boroanca @stefaanna Thanks for your support!

@ali_sitapp Congratulations on the launch! SitApp seems to be addressing the need-gap in 'Remind me to take break when working from home' posted on my problem validation platform - https://needgap.com/problems/130... . You're welcomed to explain how SitApp solves their problem so those who need it can find it easily.

@heavyinfo Thanks! Yes that does seem to be a good match for SitApp, I'll post a response there. Thanks for the tip off!

This is a nice idea. You trying to solve an important pain point. But I am not sure if everyone will be comfortable sharing their webcam.
Ali
@mahadeepray Thanks for your comment! 😀 Yes the webcam aspect is always going to be a bit tricky for people with security concerns. I plan in future versions to have an option where the webcam only turns on for 1 second every, say, 30 seconds, which would at least minimise the intrusiveness. I think with any app that uses your webcam, whether it's Zoom, Teams or something a little more subtle like this - people need to feel like they trust that their webcam feed is not going to be abused. SitApp doesn't store/transfer any of the images coming from the webcam, so hopefully it's possible to communicate that fact to people. But I agree, there will always be a proportion of people who will simply not want to have their webcam used in this manner.

Well, should've discovered this before I hunched over for a couple of hours while drawing today.
Ali
@xgrv Doh! Well hopefully you can avoid any more hunching from now on 😁
Savian Boroanca
@xgrv I feel the same. 💪

I tried it yesterday afternoon and now I'm installing it on my work PC! I think that the sloutch recognition can be improved but for a free product it's already a lot.
Ali
@mtstella that's great to hear, let me know what problems you encounter with the slouch recognition and I'll try to improve it! Thanks
Maria Teresa Stella
@ali_sitapp Sure! It would be nice to train the interface to recognize different types of slouching (for example sometimes I sort of slide down the chair while other times I get too close to the screen when typing) and also to decide how long the session should be. 10 minutes is very short for my work sessions, 25 min would be ideal for those like me who use the pomodoro technique for focusing
Ali
@mtstella Thanks! OK great, so we could train the droid to recognise more than 1 "slouch styles" when you do the setup steps to enable this to work. Yes good idea to have more control over the session times too. Thanks again for the feedback!
Ali
@mtstella Hi Maria, just to let you know that SitApp now supports multiple "slouch styles" if you wanted to give it another go! Thanks 👍 PS Timer function is on the list of to-dos also.

@ali_sitapp good to know thanks!!
