I built Server Compass because I kept running into the same frustration.
The problem
You want to self-host instead of paying Vercel prices. A $5 VPS can absolutely run your app. But then you're writing Docker Compose files, configuring nginx, setting up SSL with certbot, creating GitHub webhooks... hours of DevOps before deploying a single line of code.
Tools like Coolify exist, but they install agents that eat 200-500MB of RAM. On a $5 VPS with 512MB, that's most of your resources gone before your app even starts. And connecting GitHub? You need to create a GitHub App, configure permissions, generate private keys... a 15-minute detour just to connect a repo.
