SavePoint Finance
Hi there! SavePoint is the culmination of over 12 years of countless iterations of spreadsheet evolution and a love of financial planning! I have been tracking my personal finances for years in spreadsheets, down to every penny (or as close to it, sans the every elusive rounding error) dating back to 2013. Each year, the spreadsheet grew even more comprehensive, including complex charts, pivot tables, and advanced tracking. I personally would fulfill my ritual each month of "closing the books" and analyze where I was over time. Every year I was always looking for a new way to make the spreadsheet better. Over time, the simple budget spreadsheet evolved into a comprehensive personal financial dashboard where I could visualize our finances (past, present, and future) with ease. By 2017 the spreadsheet was robust enough to share with our friends and community, and by 2021 I made it available online for others to use. There came a point when I considered pivoting away from our spreadsheets to save on time as life grew busier. I seriously considered various financial tools out there that could aggregate data and provide real insights. Each that was considered had various tradeoffs, ranging from 1) requiring us to share our data (whether that be actual finances or logins which was a nonstarter), 2) forced us to store our information online and 3) they relied on recurring subscriptions. These were non-negotiable dealbreakers for us. So I kept onward and building out our spreadsheet again. SavePoint represents the culmination of over a decade of spreadsheet evolution and innovation. What began as a personal project leveled up into a powerful, cohesive, offline-first finance platform. It combines the flexibility and control I loved about spreadsheets with the convenience and reliability of modern software. It does things that I always wanted to include, such as FIRE retirement projections, that I didn't include in the spreadsheet. Every feature on my personal spreadsheet was included and more, built off of the foundation of the original, right down to ensuring I captured the existing functionality and familiar nomenclature into the final product. To that end, no idea or feature was held back when creating this software. Future iterations of the software will be driven by its users. With that said, In lieu of my spreadsheets, which I've used for 12+ years, I now regularly use SavePoint. Each month, I still "close the books", but now I save my progress with SavePoint. As a user myself, I am fully committed to it's success, and look forward to continuing to build this out and improve things with you!
