SatoshiVPN lets you securely access the open internet at streaming-ready speeds by installing the user-friendly, open-source VPN software, Outline, on a private server located near you.
👋 Hey Product Hunt,
I'm thrilled to share with you SatoshiVPN!
With recent news like the doxxing of Slate Star Codex and growing censorship concerns in places like Hong Kong, it's never been more clear to me the importance of being able to anonymously access the open internet. But up until now, most effective VPN tools have required either advanced computer networking skills or the sacrifice of personal information to get started. Those were two costs that I found to be too great to bear.
So, I set out to build SatoshiVPN to provide everyday internet users access to an easy-to-use VPN software that is pre-installed on a private and anonymous server.
How does it work?
SatoshiVPN installs the an easy-to-use and open source VPN software, Outline (https://getoutline.org), on a private server located near you, so that you can access the open internet quickly and securely.
How much does it cost?
SatoshiVPN is free for one hour per day. If you want a longer lasting server, pay anonymously with Bitcoin at a rate of $0.99 USD for one day, or $0.55 USD/day for servers longer than one day.

@jmarbach Congratulations on SatoshiVPN. This looks like an easy to use VPN software. But if you are running it on Open Source VPN Outline the prices are a little steep for the services provided by you.
I'm very confused. Why are you charging people? Outline (https://getoutline.org) is completely free and open source. It requires no technical knowledge to use and you'll only pay $5 per month for a server on Digital Ocean. What value are you adding by charging $30 per month?
Hey @chek! Thanks for checking out SatoshiVPN. We're adding the value of not having to register for a cloud account (not sacrificing your personal information), not having to deal with recurring charges (just pay once and that's it), giving you access to your own server (faster), and being able to use Bitcoin as a payment method. For these conveniences, we're charging $16.50/month. But you're free to use SatoshiVPN for an hour every day, no charge at all!
Most likely you can make several simultaneous vpn connections. Personally, I was very often interested in how to do this and what vpn services exist for this. Recently a friend of mine asked me about this. He often works for the same company and needs to have a good VPN service. My friend had to find a good vpn service to work with. We have been looking for a vpn for it for a very long time, we had to check several sites with the best vpn services in 2021. After a while, we still found the vpn service we needed. We found it at https://pinpointvpn.com/.

I recently made vpnoid using anchorfree VPN sdk, do you offer also an sdk, and is it possible to make an end product based on Satoshi? It can be sustainable with ads
@neilio Thanks!
The days must be used consecutively if you pay for multiple days. Were you hoping to use the service differently? E.g. top up an account balance and draw from the balance as you create and destroy servers at your discretion?

@jmarbach That's exactly what I was thiinking about!

I feel this is a great product. I have been losing sleep over trying to anonymise myself by figuring our how to pay for a cloud account using bitcoin and I haven't found something i trust. Most VPN providers are being run by shell companies with a very shady background, at least for me. I don't want to send all my traffic over a network I do not trust. This really feels like bullseye. However, it will be interesting to see how you prevent misuse, would you suspend accounts if state agencies get involved? Might also depends on the laws of the country, whose jurisdiction you fall under ...
@automaticalldramatic
Thanks so much for your kind words!
To answer your question regarding abuse: yes, we will have to disable servers that are violating the laws of the United States. We are also able to limit malicious use by only providing access to the pre-installed VPN software.
