@jasonlk is the Founder and VC @ SaaStr, or more accurately put Jason is a 2x founder, 1x VC, and constant SaaS enthusiast. He led or sourced the first VC investments in many leading enterprise/SaaS start-ups, Greenhouse.io, Pipedrive, @Algolia by @dessaigne, @Talkdesk by @ttpaiva, RainforestQA, Automile, and more. He is also an advisor or smaller investor in Showpad, FrontApp, Influitive, BetterWorks, and other SaaS leaders. Jason has co-founded two successful start-ups selling to the enterprise. Before SaaStr and VC investing, he was CEO and co-founder of EchoSign, the web’s most popular electronic signature service, from inception through its acquisition by Adobe Systems Inc. He then served as Vice President, Web Services at Adobe, where he oversaw the growth of EchoSign and Adobe Document Services to $50,000,000 in ARR in 2012 and $100,000,000+ ARR in 2013. Prior to EchoSign and Adobe, he co-founded one of the only successes in nanotechnology, NanoGram Devices, which was acquired for $50m just 13 months after founding. I loved listening to this today, best way to start off my week. Immediately, @jasonlk strikes a tone with me in the first couple minutes by voicing his hope that a certain percentage of listeners *don’t* know who he is. As he puts it to @harrystebbings, “I hope the community’s big enough, and you have contributed so much to it that a bunch of people actually have no idea who I am; that would be a good thing.” Clearly, Jason is reaching out to people like myself, who are (relatively) new to the SaaS universe, and may even be new to tech in general. Concepts of community and inclusion are so much of what build products. Pay close attention to Jason’s discussion of his draw to working with CEO’s who are clearly better than he is; modesty and passion are disarming and magnetic, especially in an investor. And by “better than he is,” Jason’s really referring to people who are so driven, so magnetic, that he would go work for them. People who could (and can) see not only the future of their own companies, but of his as well. Identifying and prioritizing this type of dynamic is really how the best relationships evolve, and how others can model their relationships on successful examples. I highly suggest listening to this as a way to start the week. There’s so much in this episode that reaches way beyond SaaS companies and dynamics.
