Rosetta DBT Studio (Open Source)

The dbt experience, without the CLI friction

Rosetta DBT Studio is an open-source desktop IDE built specifically for dbt users who want a faster, clearer, and more approachable workflow than the traditional CLI. Instead of juggling terminals, YAML files, and environment configs, Rosetta DBT Studio provides a visual, local-first interface for running and understanding dbt projects, with AI assistance to help explain models, navigate lineage, and reduce cognitive load while working on complex transformations.

We built Rosetta DBT Studio after spending a lot of time working with dbt projects purely through the CLI, juggling terminals, YAML files, configs, and onboarding new teammates. It works, but it often adds unnecessary friction, especially when projects grow or when using engines like DuckDB locally. Rosetta DBT Studio is an open-source, local-first desktop IDE for dbt, designed to make dbt projects easier to run, explore, and understand visually. We’ve also started adding optional AI assistance to help explain models and navigate lineage when things get complex, without taking control away from the engineer. I’d really love feedback from this community: • What’s the most painful part of your current dbt workflow? • Would you use a desktop IDE instead of the CLI? • Where could AI be genuinely helpful (or unnecessary) in dbt? The project is fully open source, and feedback — positive or critical — will directly shape what we build next. Thanks for checking it out
