I'm Kris, and I built Rinic because splitting expenses with my girlfriend was... awkward.
The Problem:
We moved in together last year. Rent, groceries, utilities—we needed to split everything fairly. So we tried Splitwise.
But here's the thing: It felt really uncool to pull out my phone after every coffee run and type "Coffee - $8.47" while she's standing there watching me.
And groceries? Forget it. 47 items from Trader Joe's? I'd rather just pay the whole thing than spend 20 minutes typing receipts.
So I'd forget. She'd forget. Then at the end of the month we'd have this awkward "uh... who paid for what?" conversation while scrolling through our Chase statements trying to remember.
The Realization:
One night, I'm staring at my credit card statement thinking: "All this data is right here. Why am I retyping it into an app?"
I'm a developer. I knew Azure had OCR. I knew GPT could categorize transactions.
So I spent a weekend building a prototype: Upload statement PDF → AI extracts transactions → Split however you want.
Showed it to my girlfriend. She uploaded her Discover card. 93 transactions parsed in 8 seconds.
Her reaction: "Wait, that's it? We're done?"
That's when I knew this needed to exist.
Why I'm Sharing This:
I'm not trying to build a startup. I'm not pitching VCs. I'm not trying to get rich.
I just think couples and roommates shouldn't have to type every transaction manually like it's 2005.
The Pricing Thing:
Look, I have to be honest: Running this costs money.
The free tier (10 statements/month) covers most people. That's fine—I want people to use this.
But if you're uploading 50 statements a month, I lose money. So Premium ($5/month) exists to cover those costs. That's it.
I'm not:
Showing ads
Selling your data
Training AI on your spending
Building a "surveillance capitalism" business model
Revenue = Costs. If I make profit, I'll add more free tier capacity or drop the price. This is a tool, not a money machine.
~500 people are using this (mostly friends, roommates, and couples who heard about it).
We've parsed 10,000+ statements. People seem to like it.
