This is a great take on modern security. Love how this, Dropcam, Smartthings, and Canary are taking on the old models

Ring can alert users to motion as soon as it’s detected, in addition to recording video, alerting users to any potential crime before it even happens. You can remotely “answer” the door even if you’re on the other side of the world, which can be enough to prevent something before it’s even happened. Two-way communication on the device works like a phone call, which makes it easier to communicate with whoever’s at the door, and wide-angle video is also recorded to the cloud in HD resolution.Ring is available for pre-order now, for $199 until November 1st, at which time it goes back to the full price of $249.

This looks pretty awesome, but as expected it's battery powered. Even at 5200 mAh capacity, is this another thing people will have to remember to charge?

@muldster it's actually dual-powered, so if you're replacing an existing doorbell you can wire the device directly.

Been looking for something like this! Combination wifi doorbell and dropcam. This is what SkyBell should have been. Any chance of integration with Wink?

I don't see any info on estimated shipping dates? I read through the FAQ - but saw no mention. Also - no info on how much cloud service will cost after Jan 2015.
