📌What inspired you to build this?
The inspiration came from a deeply personal frustration that I knew millions of people shared.
As a developer, I was constantly battling with file management chaos. Whether it was organizing thousands of photos with meaningless names like IMG_001.jpg, sorting through project files with random names like "新建文档1", or trying to make sense of downloaded files with cryptic filenames - the struggle was real and universal.
The "aha moment" came when I spent 3 hours writing complex regex patterns just to rename a batch of meeting photos into a proper format. I thought: "There has to be a better way. Why can't I just tell the computer what I want in plain English?"
That's when I realized AI could bridge this gap. Instead of forcing users to learn regex syntax, we could teach AI to understand natural language instructions and apply them intelligently to file naming.
🎯 What problem were you trying to solve?
We identified three core pain points affecting millions of users daily:
1. The Regex Barrier
Most file renaming tools require users to learn complex regular expressions. Patterns like ^(.+?)_(\d{4})(\d{2})(\d{2})(\..+)$ → $2-$3-$4_$1$5 are intimidating and error-prone for 95% of users.
2. Time-Consuming Manual Work
People were spending hours manually renaming files one by one, or giving up and living with chaotic file systems that made finding anything nearly impossible.
3. Lack of Context Understanding
Traditional tools couldn't understand file content. A photo of a sunset would stay as DSC_1234.jpg instead of becoming something meaningful like 2024-03-15_Sunset_Beach.jpg.
Our solution: Let users describe their needs in natural language like "rename these photos with date and location" while AI handles the complex logic behind the scenes.
🚀 How did your approach or process evolve while working on this launch?
Our development journey was a masterclass in user-driven iteration:
Phase 1: Technical Focus (Months 1-2)
Initially, we were obsessed with the AI engine's capabilities. We built impressive regex generation and content recognition features, but our early beta testers said: "It's powerful, but I don't understand how to use it."
Key Pivot: We realized technology means nothing if users can't access it easily.
Phase 2: UX Revolution (Months 3-4)
We completely rebuilt the interface around natural language. Instead of technical settings, users now see prompts like:
"Describe how you want your files named"
"What pattern should we follow?"
Breakthrough moment: When a non-technical user successfully renamed 500 files by simply typing "put the date first, then the original name".
Phase 3: Trust & Safety (Months 5-6)
User feedback revealed a critical concern: "What if it messes up my files?" We added:
Real-time preview showing exactly what each file would become
One-click undo functionality
Automatic backup creation
Step-by-step confirmation process
Phase 4: Platform Strategy (Current)
We learned that different user segments had different needs:
Developers wanted regex export capabilities
Office workers needed enterprise-specific templates
Content creators required batch processing for media files
This led to our current multi-platform approach with targeted marketing for each user segment.
The most important lesson: Users don't want complexity hidden - they want complexity eliminated. Our success metric shifted from "features shipped" to "time saved per user" and "complexity reduced."
Result: What started as a technical tool became a user empowerment platform that makes advanced file management accessible to everyone.
