Recently, I found myself diving deep into web blogs and thought, "There's got to be a better way to consume all this content." especially, while eating :)
That's when I started searching for a Chrome extension that could read the articles to me. But, oh boy, the options I found? Either super robotic voices or way too expensive for a not so bad voice.
So, I decided to make one. It was a bit rough around the edges at first – I mean, it was just me using it for a month or so. But after sharing it with a friend and getting some encouraging feedback, I spent a few more months polishing it up and now it's live on the Chrome Web Store
If you're also looking for a text-to-speech option that's more on the natural, AI-generated side and won't cost you an arm and a leg, I'd love for you to try mine out. Any feedback or bug reports would be super appreciated!
@antfenvox Congrats on the launch! Super useful - would love to be able to save my articles somewhere and listen to audio versions on the go, with this!
On a different note, I'm getting an untrusted for safe browsing alert. Might want to check with the Chrome tools team? https://groups.google.com/a/chro...
@iamaatoh thank you Akshata. Great idea! I will definitely think through how to do articles bookmarking and still keep experience simple. Your feedback is highly appreciated!
I'll definitely check the link that you've recommended. Thank you!

congrats for the launch! I have a few questions:
- there are already a dozen of screen reader extensions, how does this compare to them?
- are you planning to monetize it?
Hey Anton, congrats on bringing Readvox to life! It's awesome that you've identified a gap and filled it with a solution that can help so many of us enjoy content hands-free. Can't wait to try it out and experience those natural voices for myself. I'll definitely share my thoughts after giving it a whirl. Keep up the great work!
@rick_fan
hmm, interesting idea. I agree, for kids stories narration, cartoonish voices will be a better fit.
thank you!

This handy extension transformed my way of consuming online content. I highlight a paragraph, hit play, and suddenly, I'm learning on the go!
Readvox is a multitasking game-changer! My only wish? A bookmarking feature to save articles for later "listen-and-do" sessions.
Good work @antfenvox !!
@timmyg Thank you very much!
i'm trying to adapt just play button to most of blogs, but all of them have different structure and need individual conditions. And highlight>read is a solution for cases that I'm still about to cover.
Google docs and Kindle is another avenues I'm looking forward to bring into picture.
It is easy to work with, a chrome extension, so it can read web pages when I want to something running in the background, I think the AI reads it in a word-to-word way, sounds a little unnatural and also hard to understand.
-- Some updates on the 2nd day
Yesterday I thought I have to manually pick the extension to have it work, until today, it showned in my gmail, wow!So wonderful!
Thanks for the honest feedback, Lena! You're picking up on something real - the word-to-word pacing can definitely sound choppy sometimes. It's one of those tricky balance points between getting the pronunciation right and maintaining natural flow.
I've been working on improving the speech patterns to sound more conversational. If you haven't already, try experimenting with different voices in the settings - some handle the flow better than others depending on what you're reading.
Appreciate you taking the time to share what's not quite working yet!
Greate extension Natural voices, intuitive UI; I was about to switch to Edge browser due to Chrome's lack of Reasonable TTS until I discovered this extension.
Hey Ofer! So glad Readvox kept you on Chrome - that's exactly the kind of problem I built it to solve. Chrome's built-in TTS really is pretty rough compared to what we can do with modern voices. Thanks for noticing the UI work too - spent a lot of time making sure it actually feels intuitive rather than just functional.
Hope it keeps making your browsing experience way better!
