RapidPipeline
It’s 2025. If your company is working with physical goods such as electronics, cars, or furniture, there’s really no way around embracing realistic, 3D digital twins. Be it for marketing imagery (CGI), for XR use cases, for configurators, for planning applications, or for eCommerce: using 3D digital twins makes things way more simple, compared to traditional photography, but also brings additional value across the board. And, by the way: most products already exist in 3D, as an accurate CAD model. So, as a company, if you could just leverage CAD models of your products as realistic 3D digital twins, you could take a leap forward and stop relying on legacy workflows like product photography, today!
❓But how do you go from a raw CAD file to beautiful, realistic marketing content, or even to an XR-ready 3D model?
🗨️ Our team, consisting of seasoned 3D developers, 3D tech artists, and product leaders, talked to many people in the industry about this issue, and we figured out:
🙄 So far, getting CAD ready for 3D tools has been a pretty hard and tedious workflow!
First you’ll have to translate and tessellate your CAD model, to use it in common 3D DCC software. That part alone is already super hard, because your CAD files might come from Solidworks, CATIA, Rhino, etc. ... and most 3D tools (such as Blender) cannot even load those files, to begin with!
After you somehow got the CAD asset imported into your favorite 3D software, you’ll end up with a super heavy 3D model with all sorts of issues – such as inconsistent 3D face orientation / flipped normals, duplicate vertices and seams that need welding, and tons of invisible inner parts that make your 3D model even harder to handle, and slower to render (especially important if you also want it in XR and real-time)!
Finally, what if you want to go to the next logical step in the workflow and assign realistic materials, using your favorite 3D DCC tool (such as Blender)? To do that, you will need good UVs on the model, which the raw CAD data doesn’t provide… so you’ll have to create them yourself, just to be able to assign some materials!
🤔 So, we asked ourselves:
How could we help people get from their raw CAD file to that lightweight 3D model, ready for material assignment and use in CGI rendering and XR, without spending days on that task alone?
🎉 RapidPipeline for Blender to the rescue! 🎉
When helping our clients to process and optimized their CAD models with our RapidPipeline 3D Processor, we realized that one of their main pain points was to get those CAD models
processed 100% locally (due to NDA reasons), while
tessellating, cleaning and optimizing the model + creating UVs,
within the familiar interface of your favorite 3D tool, like Blender.
🎯 Therefore, we built RapidPipeline for Blender with exactly those requirements in mind. It allows you, for example, to load a CATIA or Solidworks file directly into your favorite Blender setup, selectively optimize parts and equip them with UVs, or even bake AO, normal maps or other textures, right there – with a single click, and all happening 100% locally on your machine.
⚙️ We also designed presets to help you automate repetitive tasks, available to everyone through the RapidPipeline cloud, and they are 100% compatible with the RapidPipeline cloud / 3D processor CLI presets. So, if you want to use some of our factory presets, or just share your presets with a wider team to make sure everyone uses the same workflow and gets similar results, we’ve got you covered.
💡 We’re super excited to learn what YOU think about RapidPipeline for Blender, and we invite everyone to try it out for free!
