Joel Fischer
Hey there, Product Hunters! My name is Joel Fischer, and I'm the solo developer of the Rainy Skies weather app for iOS. I'm a professional iOS developer, but I wanted an app to call my own. I've always loved weather apps, and I usually have four or five installed on my phone at any given time—something about the challenge of presenting weather information in a digestible and intuitive manner that speaks to me. Rainy Skies launched in version 1.0 in October 2023 after nearly a year of nights and weekends of work. Rainy Skies 2.0 is the culmination of another six months of work to support Radar and the Apple Watch. I hope you'll check out the app, it's completely free to use forever, with limitations, and only $5/year for a premium subscription (until May 1, when it will jump to $5.99 for new users). I hope you check it out and enjoy it using it even half as much as I've enjoyed making it!

Does it require internet connection to work? Congrats on the launch btw! 🎉

Joel Fischer

@rusty_aim Hi Mary, it does require an internet connection to work, at least some of the time. I have developed a smart caching system so even if you don't have internet for quite a while afterward, it will continue to use the data you retrieved previously. So even with spotty internet, you can still see your weather (though it won't be quite as accurate as it would be otherwise)!

@joel_fischer good to know, thank you sm! Good luck with your app! 🍀

I really like weather app that intuitively displays rain and cloud radar maps. Its UI is also simple and clear.

This looks very professional

Joel Fischer

@ayuanyuan Thank you, I worked very hard to make it as professionally produced as I can!

Cool, is the Android version on your schedule by any chance?

Joel Fischer

@sirui_wang Hello, unfortunately, I'm a professional iOS developer with no experience developing Android native apps. It's something I would love to see, but the amount of time it would take to make it happen is probably too much. If Rainy Skies ever became such a success that I could hire an Android developer, perhaps!

Sirui Wang

@joel_fischer As a developer, I completely understand how time-consuming creating an Android version can be. I look forward to your success with Rainy Skies.
Congratulations on the launch!
