Hi PH! After 2 months of learning iOS development I'm pleased to announce my first product launch! 🥨 Pretzel Idea After exploring numerous apps focused on calorie counting, I found that while the concept seems effective in theory, it often proves to be difficult and time-consuming to track accurately in practice. I also found a few apps that focus on visual journaling, but they seemed outdated and had complex interfaces and UX. Because of this, and with the SwiftUI knowledge I was acquiring, I began developing an app that offers a straightforward and aesthetically pleasing experience. I also gave myself the chance to experiment with the latest tech trend, AI, to explore its potential in an app of this nature. 📲 You can download the first version of it on the App Store now! Really appreciate your feedback & support, happy to chat, answer questions, and discuss technical details. Santiago Galán

@sgalanb Huge props for diving into iOS dev and coming up with something in just 2 months! 🙌
Santiago Galán
@wintoniak Thanks Constantin! Having a background on web development definitely helped. Although I noticed that app development is a completely different game.

I’ve been waiting for an app like this! Really cool. How accurate is it? Like I guess soups and salads might be a challenge, right?
Santiago Galán
@chtrbx_ai Thanks Jake! The app doesn't rely on image recognition. Instead, when you take a photo, you're prompted to describe what's in it using a text field. The standout feature compared to database-based apps like MyFitnessPal is the ability to describe your meals in natural language. Since the app provides these descriptions to GPT-4 to generate the analysis and other trends, it can accurately identify almost everything no matter what words you used to describe it. This includes homemade meals which might be tough to find in a database but are easy to log in Pretzel.
Jake B (Launched 11.20)
@sgalanb curious, do you have to take a picture since it doesn’t serve a purpose?
Santiago Galán
@chtrbx_ai Thats a really good question. My initial idea was to only log pictures, but the only way I found to get useful analysis was with text logs. What I'm thinking is to also allow text only logs, and add a list view to show the titles and maybe a small thumbnail if the log has text + picture. That in addition to the gallery view that exist now. Do you prefer text over picture logs?
Jake B (Launched 11.20)
@sgalanb I think your approach makes a lot of sense. If you could analyze who posted photos vs who didn’t, I’d be interested to know which cohort (if either) were more engaged on the platform.

Fantastic Idea. Congratulations on your launch! I felt Pretzel's Image recognition and AI technology is cutting-the-edge!! Are you planning to start paid plan or some extensions?
Santiago Galán
@kimihito_tanaka Thanks Kimihito! There is a Pretzel Plus plan that unlocks unlimited meal logs.
Congrats team Pretzel: Food Diary on the launch!
Santiago Galán
@manmohit Thanks Manmohit!

It's cool that you noticed the challenges with existing calorie counting apps. I had this challenge too. Congratulations on your first product launch!
Santiago Galán
@a007mr Thanks Anton! Yes, I think having to calculate the calories (especially for homemade meals) is a pain, and the result tends to be inaccurate.

I love pretzel dogs. Auntie Annes is like my favorite place and the Nathan's hot dogs are super good. I highly recommend you eat from them.
