Easy way to create artsy selfies in a second. Some Filters could be improved visually - I like the painting styles the most.

Hey Hunters, It's great being here again after we received so much love for our last release of the PhotoEditor SDK (http://bit.ly/2zeVlEI). Today, we are very happy to present our latest app "Portrait" to you. Our photography app provides real-time, neural portrait filters ranging from double exposure, over color to blending effects. For some time now we took a deep dive into machine learning (http://bit.ly/2AYSSf6) to facilitate complex design tasks, as we believe that AI-based algorithms are the future of design and photography. Our vision for Portrait was that creating stunning portraits and creatives would be as easy as taking a selfie. We're looking forward to your feedback and questions. Enjoy!

I was hoping to be impressed, but it seems to me that this is putting a pretty generic mask around the predefined template and hoping that you fit your face to that template. It's really all a bit hit and miss, especially if your face isn't square to the camera. Any deviation and large chunks get cut off by the mask. Maybe it's me, but I'm failing to see where AI and ML come into the equation.

@frassmith Hey Fraser, thank you for your comment! The mask we show initially is only used to give a hint of the ideal pose to the user. We use a neural net to calculate a mask that segments the person from the background. This allows us to create a fine-grained mask, that fully isolates the user from the background. The mask is then combined with the camera image and our assets to create the visual effects. For more technical details you can check out our blog post: https://blog.photoeditorsdk.com/...

@codingdivision so the pictures are somehow uploaded and processed in your servers? Just to know
Malte Baumann

@iherreros Hey, all processing is done locally using your phones GPU. This is why we're able to show a real-time live preview when running on an iPhone 6S or better. The images never leave your device!
