Porcupine is a free, cross-platform screenwriting app designed for everyone. Write distraction-free from anywhere with the formatting magically done for you, and everything you need built in - no sign-ups or downloads required.
Hi Product Hunt π
About a year ago, I realised my favourite screenwriting apps weren't free or cross-platform. So I decided to make one that was: Porcupine, a distraction-free screenwriting web app, designed to be approachable to everyone.
Features include:
- Automatic formatting
- Drag and drop scene rearranging (just added as of v0.4!)
- Autocomplete for names and scenes (just added as of v0.4!)
- Stats (e.g. word count, lines per character, average scene duration, etc.)
- Easy export as Fountain or PDF files
- Dark mode
- Support for Windows, Mac, Chromebook and Linux, no downloads or sign-ups required
In line with my goal of making it accessible to all, Porcupine is a free and funded entirely by donations. If you find my app useful, please consider making a donation or sharing my app around.
Thank you :)

@digitallyoli Congrats on launch. Porcupine looks amazing free and distraction-free are two huge wins for writers. Outstanding work.
love how easy it is to jump in and edit. I had a bit of trouble getting the character name to format into the middle of the screen, but otherwise worked nicely. Awesome you're giving it away, while Final Draft costs $200.
Congrats on the launch! π
@jonnymiles Thank you so much! Glad to hear it you found it easy to use. I'll be sure take a closer look at the character name issue ASAP :)

Love the aesthetics! It was fun to play around with it, and I found the guides in the example text to be helpful. If there was a guide on screenwriting jargon and how to typically read a screenplay, it would be even better for a newbie like me
