PhotoTask

Real-time photo requests by location

PhotoTask is a location-based photo request app. You drop a pin on the map, add a short description, and someone nearby can take a photo and send it back within 24 hours. It’s built for moments when you want an authentic view of a place without curated social media feeds or stock images. That could be your hometown, a beach you miss, or a location you’re curious about on the other side of the world. PhotoTask is community-driven and intentionally simple.

Hi Product Hunt 👋 I’m the maker of PhotoTask. The idea came from wanting a simple way to see places as they actually are, not through curated social feeds or old photos. Sometimes you want to know what your hometown looks like right now, what the beach is like today, or what’s happening somewhere you can’t physically be. PhotoTask started as a small experiment around location, trust, and real-time interaction. The core constraint was keeping it lightweight and human. One request, one photo, time-limited to 24 hours. That forced a lot of product decisions around simplicity, moderation, and UX. From a build perspective, this was a solo project and my first full end-to-end production launch. I iterated heavily on permissions, map interactions, and radius-based filtering, and learned a lot about what breaks once real users are involved. It’s still early and very much community-driven, so I’d love feedback on the concept, what feels useful, and what doesn’t. Happy to answer any questions about the build or the idea. Thanks for checking it out 🙏
