Hi Product Hunt, I'm the developer.
On the Mac, apps like Yoink and Dropover let you park a file halfway through a drag. I use Windows at work and kept missing that, so I built PerchShelf.
Start dragging a file and give the mouse a little shake, or push it to a screen edge. A small shelf shows up next to the cursor. Drop the file there, go find the destination at your own pace, and drag it out again. Several files at once work too, via the "All" row.
Since launch in October it got a few things people asked for: "Send to PerchShelf" in the Explorer right-click menu (the idea came from a Reddit comment), a right-click menu on each item, and saving the whole shelf as a ZIP or copying it into a folder. You can also send photos from your phone to the shelf over your own Wi-Fi by scanning a QR code, no app or cloud needed.
It holds files by reference, so big files land instantly, and it never goes online on its own: no account, no telemetry. UI in 7 languages.
It is on the Microsoft Store with a 30-day trial, then a one-time USD 5.89. I'd like to hear where the shake triggers by accident or where dragging out does not work.
