I'm a crocheter and I kept running into the same frustrating problem - I'd find a gorgeous pattern with perfect colors, but had no clue which actual yarns to buy to match them. I'd spend forever comparing yarn sites to the pattern photo, squinting at my screen trying to figure out if "Dusty Rose" or "Mauve Mist" was closer. It was annoying enough that I decided to just build a tool to solve it. When you see a crochet or knitting pattern with specific colors, there's no easy way to figure out which yarns from actual brands will match those colors. I originally started with a broader project management idea, but realized the color-matching problem was way more specific and solvable. I've been building out a yarn database and working through technical challenges with image color extraction and matching algorithms. Patterli lets you upload a pattern photo and instantly shows you which real yarn colors from different brands match what you see. Still actively iterating based on what would make it most useful for the crafting community.
