TL;DR I believe that traditional product tours (i.e. tooltips/full screen modals) have their time and place for onboarding users to SaaS products or new features, but are way overused, overcomplicated to set up, and overpriced. OrangeCarpet let's you create video/image-based product tours that are more likely to be effective in SaaS products that have any significant level of complexity for their users. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Longer Pitch: There are many common issues with traditional product tour software: 1. They hijack a user's screen, which can lead to a negative impact in some cases 2. They are clunky and it's a pain to work with dynamic elements in your app (i.e. overlays, elements that may or may not appear) 3. They aren't always effective. Many users simply click through them without retaining any information, and then can't go back to re-do it. 4. They break often if you change anything in your app When I came across WordPress' onboarding flow about 4 months ago in a ProductLed.com guide, I thought it was a great solution to all of these problems and decided to build a tool that would replicate and extend their approach. So here's how the approach of OrangeCarpet (roll out the...orange...carpet for your users - red was taken) is different: 1. Tours live in a widget at the bottom of a specified page that users can minimize, close, or learn from at any time. It does not take away their control of their session. 2. Because you don't need to target specific element selectors on the page, these tours do not "break" for a specific stack or if your developers change the structure of a page. 3. Users can go back and forth between steps if they forget things. In addition, video or image-based steps convey a lot more information than a simple tooltip/click. For now, OrangeCarpet is designed for SMBs, with pricing and features to match. You can get all your flows set-up on the free plan if you'd like to give it a try: https://orangecarpet.io/

Sweet branding, really 'tells' a lot in 2 words. (I, as a user, actually do want the orange, rather than red carpet experience haha.) Congrats on your launch!

@esus Thanks Esus. Still working on finding the right messaging, maybe that's a good element to keep :)

All the best for the launch @dale_cudmore
💡 Bright idea
Congrats team OrangeCarpet on the exciting launch on Producthunt! Your concept of 'Show - don't tell' is a great approach to user engagement and retention. Just a thought as you move forward, have you considered analytics integration? It would be amazing to track the effectiveness of the tours and measure user engagement. It could provide valuable insights to continually improve the tours. Keep rocking and evolving!
Dale Cudmore
@manmohit I have considered analytics integration, I just thought it made sense to prioritize other core features first, but they are coming eventually!

Absolutely love this! So intuitive to create the video walkthroughs and then step through them as a user 🤩 I've been considering how to showcase certain bits of functionality and this would be perfect! I think I'll integrate this into feedbackcircle.app! If you're interested @dale_cudmore, I'd love to give OrangeCarpet an in depth review on feedbackcircle (potentially from the integration itself) If you're interested, give me a shout :) Great job!
Dale Cudmore
@mattgibsontech Hi Matthew, appreciate the kind words. A review would be great in any form. And if you track results in any way and want to put together a quick case study, we could put a nice link to your project on the homepage. You can email me at dale@orangecarpet.io in the future if you have thoughts/feedback on this or the app in general.
