Titouan Launay
Hi Product Hunt! We are Auguste, Pierre and Titouan founders of Onedoc. Onedoc makes it easy for developers to generate, host and track PDFs. We strive at making the platform as easy to integrate as possible. Why? Our previous venture provided software consulting to large firms. Each and any of the projects had to implement some kind of PDF generation and hosting, whether for statements, invoices or just to send as attachements along emails. A simple, one-page PDF would take hours to develop as we needed to work with particularly complex SDKs and do all the layout maths. In turn, documents were mostly overlooked and rarely updated - sometimes causing major confusion. Most developers have implemented PDF generation at some point, but no real solution exists. Spinning up a headless browser is a lot of work with only subpar rendering, HTML to CSS services require major infrastructure works to get going. In a nutshell, PDFs are frontend. But they haven’t improved like frontend did. What does Onedoc bring to the table? 1. 🤝 Bridging the gap between frontend technologies and paged documents. We created the react-print-pdf library to help developers create complex layouts and components using React. Footnotes, running headers, … This is very simply implemented and you can also use your favorite CSS frameworks such as TailwindCSS. 2. 📑 Making PDF generation as easy as an API call. Onedoc provides an API and SDK to easily generate PDFs securely, without having to spin up any dedicated services. You may not even need a backend! 3. 📈 Hosting and tracking your documents. With a simple parameter, Onedoc can host your documents and deliver them without you having to do anything. Onedoc can also inject tracking information to your PDF links to follow their usage (in private beta). What’s our story? With a previous venture together, we were particularly frustrated with the existing PDF toolkits. What could have been highly dynamic experiences with a lot of added value for our customers was simply impossible to implement in a maintainable way. We built Onedoc as an internal tool to generate our own brochures and invoices. After getting into YC on another idea in late November, we quickly pivoted to this field which we had experienced first-hand. PDFs are frontend. We need to build them that way. What is your experience with PDF generation? We would love to hear your feedback and ideas on all the above.
