On Writing by Stephen King is the only book you need to read about the craft of writing. Hell, I don't even read Stephen King's novels but his advice is timeless and invaluable. It's fun, wise, and 100% true. As a novelist myself, I couldn't recommend it more highly.

I've read the book and listened to the audio of Stephen King reading it himself. Both are treats. The book-on-tape is a perfect escape while sitting in traffic.

The first part of the book is a summary of King's determination to get where he is. For startup people in particular it demonstrates the hustle. The second part of the book are King's rules On Writing. It is a summarized version of two other books: On Writing Well and Strunk & White's Elements of Style.
