What do you think? …

Ever had half a pot of cream go mouldy in the back of the fridge? Does your fridge have half-used packets of herbs, cast away to slowly die behind a cucumber? Ever thought "what the hell am I going to do with all these lemons"? Over 1/3 of all food produced globally goes to waste. Hi everyone, I'm Alex 👋 I'm excited to launch my first project on PH! If any of the above resonated with you hopefully you'll like a side-project of mine I'm launching today - Omlete. I like to cook. I also like to cook new recipes from cuisines I've not explored. But I often find these recipes call for small portions of ingredients that are typically bought in large packs, multipacks, jars or plastic pots. I end up with these leftovers in my fridge and cupboards. Things like fresh herbs, multi-packs of vegetables, dairy products, jars of special sauces. I'm ashamed to admit it, but quite often I find myself throwing these away. But I'm not alone - here in the UK, we throw away nearly 9.5 million tonnes of food waste in a single year. I don't want to contribute to this anymore. So I built Omlete. Using the latest generative-AI models, Omlete can create personalised and easy-to-follow recipes using your leftovers. Here's how it works: 1️⃣ You tell Omlete what ingredients you want to use up 2️⃣ Omlete generates a recipe using the ingredients 3️⃣ Something not to your liking? Tell Omlete "Remove this ingredient", or, "make this vegan" and get an updated recipe You can ask Omlete to add/remove or swap out any of the ingredients, or update the recipe to your preferences - for example vegetarian/vegan/dairy-free etc. That's it! I'm excited to launch this first version - I want to get it into your hands to get as much feedback as possible. But I'm not going to stop there - Omlete still has a long way to go. Next up I want to add vision to Omlete. Upload an image of your fridge or cupboard to get a recipe from the visible ingredients. I also want to expand Omlete into meal prep. By generating a whole week's worth of recipes we can do even more to reuse bulkier ingredients across multiple recipes. Thanks for reading, and I hope you find Omlete useful! I'm very excited to receive any feedback you might have. It's free to sign up and you get 15 recipe generations tokens when you do! Happy creating! - Alex (food waste facts: https://www.businesswaste.co.uk/...)

This is one of a unique product that I have seen today. Can you also show some health rating of your recipes? 🚀 Congratulations on the successful launch!
Alex Painter
@naveed_rehman Thanks Naveed - good suggestion. I was thinking about adding estimated nutritional information, but hadn't settled on what specifically. What would your idea of the health rating show? Stars? Or % of daily intakes of salt/fats etc?
Naveed Rehman
@alexpainter Some standard health rating framework could help such as Health Stars.
Ashley Orcutt
@naveed_rehman As someone with underlying health issues, I would love to see the nutritional values in listed ingredients as well!
Shinny
Awesome product, love the website UI!

@shinny Thank you very much Shinny 🙂

Great idea, Alex. Brilliant concept. There is an assumption that certain basic ingredients are also available or edible to the user ... have you considered a second step where the user can say 'I dont have any garlic!' or 'I cannot eat/am allergic to garlic' ... and the system tries again with the original ingredients, but avoiding recipes that have garlic? (not for me though... I love garlic!)
Alex Painter
@matt_brake Hi Matt! I appreciate you taking the time to try it out, and thanks for the feedback 🙂 Same as yourself, I saw other users missing the edit prompt input on the recipe page - I don't think the concept of editing after the generation is clear enough. Definitely something to add to the todo list. I like the idea of setting personal preferences, hadn't considered that. I was however intending to stay away from things like allergens. As with most LLMs, the model isn't always quite right and can hallucinate, and I'd be worried it incorrectly labelling something as 'nut free' for example. But it could definitely work for things 'I don't like'.

Love this. Congratulations on the launch!
Alex Painter
@jack_shannon2 Thanks Jack! I'm excited to share it with everyone 🙂
Max
