Building Notely AI started with watching my mother struggle. She worked as a meeting secretary at a large government company in Sweden, documenting worker council discussions where every decision requires detailed protocol. She needed to capture specific dialogue whilst remaining actively engaged in conversations. We tried various tools, but nothing truly helped her work. So I built something that would. What inspired me was not just the technical challenge, but the human one. I wanted to help people focus on the conversation rather than frantically typing notes. Whether it is a project meeting, a lecture, or a client session - the tool should work for you, not the other way around. My approach evolved significantly during development. I initially focused purely on transcription accuracy using OpenAI’s Whisper API, supporting 90 different languages. But user feedback quickly showed that summarisation was equally critical. People do not want perfect transcripts - they want actionable insights. This shifted my entire product philosophy from “capture everything” to “extract what matters.” I added features like chat functionality to query transcripts, flashcard generation for learners, translation capabilities, and multiple input methods. The goal became making the tool adaptable to different contexts - not locked into a single platform like Teams or Google Meet. The launch taught me humility. With strong competitors in the market, I realised success would not come from being first or biggest, but from being genuinely useful. The small monthly revenue from global subscribers is modest, but it validates that real people find value in what I have built. I have even seen copycats emerge on the App Store - which, whilst frustrating, confirms there is demand. Now my mother uses Notely AI regularly and tells me how it has transformed her work. She can finally be an active participant in meetings rather than a transcriber. Hearing her gratitude reminds me why I started this journey - creating tools that simplify complex tasks and democratise capabilities that were previously only available to large organisations.
