Just installed it. First impression: Wonderful, but definitely needs an overlay with the short description text that can be found on NG. The fotos are so interesting, you always want to read the text, but I don't want to have to go the NG site to get it. Especially because I opened a browser window to go someplace completely different. I like the one stop photo detour, but not the photo-text two stop detour.
@petra_quilitz thanks for trying it out Petra! I did have the text overlayed in an earlier version. I decided to get rid of it because I liked to see the text only once (usually the first time I see the photo) - all other times it was just noise.
PS1: you can click on the natgeo logo that takes you to the description on NatGeos website.
PS2: I can DM you a previous version if you like :)

@madhavanmalolan Ah I see, although, why not make it small then. What I learned from my work in the design industry: there is this first reaction gut instinct about a concept that is usually right. The hard part is to later refine a design without overwriting that gut feeling. If you initially had the text then that was the correct concept to go with. The later design phase should find a way to work with this concept but not eliminating it. (The design should fit the concept, not the concept the design) - And like I said, I don't want to go to the NG site to get the description. Users are lazy creatures :) - Thanks for the offer of sending the other version, but I have about a million things on my todo list and absolutely no time for any of this really (that's why I'm here. Procastination..... :)

I open a lot of new tabs throughout my working day. I like this extension a lot, but an option that allows us to choose between showing today's image of the day, or previous random ones, would be really cool. (If possible)
@productpearson Thanks for your feedback! :) It sure is possible, i'll try to hack it up over the next weekend! Cheers!

Hey, one other thing as well. You might want to add a white shadow behind the logo so that the wording is visible on both images that have a light background and a dark background. On today's image you can't see the logo text:
It's a very nice idea for whoever likes NATGEO (who doesn't??).
Way better than the current dull default background of Chrome.
Pros:Easy to install
Cons:Lack's personalisation
