Mux Real-Time Video

Real-time video, built differently
Mux’s Real-Time Video is the most intuitive way to build real-time communication into your application. With the latest addition to the Mux Video platform, you can seamlessly broadcast a real-time session to millions via a live stream, then immediately stream an on-demand version when it’s done.

Thanks @mwseibel 👋 Phil from Mux here, I've been working on Mux Real-Time Video since the start of 2021, and I'm really excited to launch it here! When we first released Mux Video back in 2017, we focused on traditional streaming technologies based on protocols like HLS, which was well established, rather than WebRTC, which was in its infancy in comparison. But as we watched the industry evolve, and the world change around us, it became clear that real-time video was going to be just as huge as live streaming and on-demand video. Real-time video is the critical third component to completing the trifecta of video: Produce content in real-time, live stream it to a huge audience, and keep the recordings for instant on-demand viewing. By adding real-time video to our product lineup, we finally have a platform that allows any developer to build any type of video experience, and transition elegantly between them. What's next? We've got a pretty packed roadmap, but I'm personally really excited to raise the client side abstraction level of what we've built a little, making building real-time video applications as easy as using Mux Player to play live or on-demand video. I can't wait to leverage @dylanjha and the team's learnings of building on-top of web components.
