Hey, I’m Sam. I’ve been a developer for a long time, but this is the first product of my own that I’ve actually put out into the world. That part is honestly a little surreal. I built Morphjet because I kept running into the same annoying problem: I’d need to convert a file, end up on some ad-choked website, upload a document I didn’t particularly want to hand over, and then wait behind everyone else’s uploads. I wanted something that just lived on my own machine and did the job. Morphjet currently handles 2,748 conversions across 98 formats on Mac, Windows and Linux. It supports batch conversion, watch folders that automatically convert whatever you drop into them, a full PDF toolkit with on-device OCR, on-device AI for speech-to-text, photo upscaling and background removal, and archive extraction for zip, 7z, tar and rar. There’s also metadata stripping that tells you exactly what it removed, plus optional SHA-256 checksums. Nothing is uploaded. There’s no account, no watermark, no daily cap, no file size limit, and it works with the wifi turned off. I also ran the same photo through 11 popular online converters for a study I published. 6 of the 11 gave it back still carrying the original GPS coordinates, camera serial number and owner name, and none of the 11 say whether they strip that data. A few honest caveats Morphjet is closed source, and it isn’t free. If either of those is important to you, this probably isn’t the app for you. $79 is also a lot next to a free website. I priced it for people who convert files as part of their work. If you only convert a handful of files a year, honestly, use a website. I mean that. The first launch is a little slow. The installer itself is about 10 MB, but on first run it fetches the conversion engines onto your machine, which adds a couple of hundred MB. A format you’ve never used before may fetch its own engine the first time you select it. The AI tools each download their model once too. None of that carries anything about your files, and once everything you need is downloaded, the wifi can be turned off. One other limitation: around a third of the formats are read-only. That includes every camera RAW format, the older Office and ebook formats, and a handful of others. Morphjet can open those and convert out of them, but it won’t write them.
