I love content like this. Great idea to put it into its own form. Good idea with the gamification too, that will make it unique compared to youtube videos that do this similar content summaries. If your plan is to make a visual library, I would take notes from duo-lingo! That way, the next big problem is also solved: most people read books, but it doesn't matter if you can't retain the info, or also take action on the content. You could pull users in to stay forever if the app would ping them on reminders they choose about book actions they want to take and not forget about!
