Just came across this app today. It runs in the background of your iPhone, tracks your usage, and allows you to set limits (and become aware) of how much time you waste on your phone everyday. Pretty slick.

@gioismeyo Thanks for the kind words, Nick. I hope the app brings awareness to how much you're using your phone. I know it did for me :-)

Hey everyone. I'm the designer and developer of this app. I'd love to hear any feedback you have for it. Bring it! The app just launched today, and I hope it's super useful for people :-)

@kevinholesh what a wonderful idea. Sometimes just being aware of your own habits helps you to change them. I think we all need this reminder on mobile. I'm excited to try this.

@davemorin You hit the nail right on the head. I built this to make me aware of my own habit of looking at my iPhone a bit too much. As a little experiment, I had a few of my early testers guess how much time they spend on their phone. They were all about 50% too low in their guesses and were surprised to learn the real count. I know I was surprised too.

This reminds me of Mobile Flow, a simple app to avoid digital distractions. cc @ryandawidjan @zmh

i love this and the philosophy behind it. I try to take an internet/phone shabbas on Saturdays to help focus on high level stuff (this, of course, becomes 2nd to when the startup is blowing up :P)

@eriktorenberg Thank you, Erik! I'm super happy you like my approach to this problem. I don't want to come across as too "iPhone's are ruining society." I'll have to try an iPhone retreat this Saturday :-)

I'm really curious how this works. What kind of activities are you tracking? How do you know someone is using his iPhone?
Kevin Holesh@kevinholesh · Maker of Moment and Focus
@emieljanson Hi Emiel. Moment only tracks when you are using your iPhone. It doesn't track walking, driving, or biking yet. I spent about 6 months developing a way to track if someone is using their iPhone in an Apple-approved way. It takes a number of factors into account to track your iPhone usage.

@kevinholesh How accurate do you think you are? What are your future plans? By the way: what's the function behind the green toggle on the top left of the screen? Edit: I've downloaded the app, checked a few messages and now it tells me I've been using my iPhone for 15 minutes. I might used it for 1 minute.
Kevin Holesh@kevinholesh · Maker of Moment and Focus
@emieljanson The app is accurate to within a couple minutes each day. It's still version 1.0 so there are some kinks to work out as more people use the app. If you have auto-tracking on, the green toggle at the top lets you turn tracking on and off in case you want to stop tracking for whatever reason. Edit: I'm sorry it was so inaccurate for you. I designed it so that false positives were hard to get, but it's not perfect. Can you describe what you were doing with your phone during those 15 minutes so I can fix it? Also, do you have auto-tracking turned on in your settings screen?
Emiel Janson@emieljanson · Designer, Blendle
@kevinholesh auto tracking was on. It was just laying on the table. Happy to help, if you like to discuss the issue you can add me on Skype.
