Pi Memory for People Who Can’t Memorize Stuff

A simple app that helps you memorize π without pretending it’s rocket science. No talent required. Just type digits, get instant feedback, and slowly push the limit. I started around 20 digits and got to 160 faster than expected. Turns out deliberate practice is underrated.

I built this because I was curious how far deliberate practice can push memory for someone who isn’t good at memorizing numbers. The idea came from Veritasium’s “The Expert Myth” where Grant Gussman recites 200 digits of π and explains that it isn’t talent, but a system: environment + repetition + fast feedback + deliberate practice. I prototyped a small app with a tight feedback loop and learned that performance increases faster than expected once chunking kicks in. Baseline was around 20 digits and I reached 160 fairly quickly. This project made me rethink how much of “talent” is actually just feedback loop design. If you try it, I’d be curious how many digits you reach and where chunking starts to appear. Happy to answer questions or share how I built it.
