I was looking for an ergonomic and mechanical keyboard with a standard layout and the Matias was the best one at a competitive price of $200. After a few weeks using it I love it. This is my first mechanical keyboard, so I don't know how it compares with others but there is a huge difference between this and the Kinesis Freestyle, with has a rubber dome.
It has 3 USB ports. The construction is very solid and the rest for the wrists feel great. I really like that you can get it with the Mac layout. It includes all the Mac keys, brightness, volume and the like.
The Esc button is a little too far, take that into account Vim users. It has undo, cut, paste, copy buttons but I don't find myself using the. Same goes for the navigation cluster next to the arrows. I try to keep may hands in the home row as much as possible.
About keeping the hands in the home row, in order to avoid using the arrows I'm using Karabiner (https://pqrs.org/osx/karabiner/) and remapped Left Control + HJKL to act as arrows in the entire system. I've also used the system preferences to remap Caps Lock to be left control, so I press that with my left pinky and use my right hand to navigate.
I'm not a keyboard connoisseur but I'd recommend the Matias Ergo Pro without any doubt. I'm actually thinking about buying another unit.
