Really interesting both how broad and how granular you can go with these. They were developed by the TomTom founders and donated to public domain in 2008.

I think there are a lot of problems with this. 1. They're not unique. The same code can exist in multiple countries or US states and requires the country to be prefixed. 2. They're not memorable. For the same reason domain names were invented to 'cover up' IP addresses, city and place names exist with either *more* granularity or equal granularity compared… See more
