Mandarin Tales

Hey PH 👋 I’m Noor, the founder behind Mandarin Tales. Like a lot of people, I picked up new hobbies during the pandemic. For me, it was learning Mandarin. I completely fell in love with the language learning process, and over time even cleared HSK 1–4 (HSK is a Chinese proficiency exam, for those unfamiliar). But no matter how much my spoken Chinese improved, reading was painful. The content for language learners is either boring, too hard or too inaccessible. It was almost impossible for me to build a *consistent* reading habit. That’s what led me to build Mandarin Tales: a mobile app offering interactive stories for learners. If you’ve ever played those old-school text adventure games from the 90s... this is that, but for learning Chinese! You make choices that shape the story, and the gamified, choice-driven format turns reading into something fun. This is very much a passion project shaped by my own language learning journey, and I’m excited to share it. I’m launching with 3 stories and will be adding more based on feedback.
