In an afternoon slump of scrolling social media, a small itch of mine resurfaced: I love saving recommendations from posts and articles for future reference. Whether it's a travel itinerary, a new restaurant, or even a coffee shop, most of the places I visit come from something I saw online, usually shared by someone I follow. (I have been influenced 🤯)

But saving this content was always a hassle. I'd end up with a pile of saved posts on TikTok/Instagram or a disorganized mess of Chrome bookmarks. Every time I wanted to find a good spot for lunch or even plan for a half-day layover once in a while, I had to sift through all of that  re-scanning Instagram posts or digging through bookmarks - just to find the one recommendation I had in mind.

If only (oh, the struggle) I could send whatever content I was looking at to a tool that would automatically extract the relevant locations. It could save them in a designated place - on a map - so I could easily come back to them when needed in the future.

And that's how "Locator" was born. Whether it's an amazing hiking trail, a taco shop, or a one-day Tokyo itinerary, you simply share it with the app, and it saves all the spots for you, neatly organized and auto-labeled on a map.
I shared my process with the #buildinpublic community on X and BlueSky, and a few months in - we launched the app for Android and iOS users.
We'd love to hear your feedback!

How does Locator handle privacy?

Hadar Sharvit

@scytalelabs_marketing thank you for asking. we offer anonymous sign in, either with "guest login" or with apple, allowing users to disconnect their private information from the app. aside from that, we do not collect any data, nor sell it to 3rd parties.

💡 Bright idea

This sounds like such a game-changer! 📍I love the idea of having a tool that automatically organizes all these great spots for me—especially when I’m constantly finding new places on social media. The idea of a map that pulls in recommendations and itineraries without the hassle of digging through old posts is genius. I’m definitely going to check it out!

Will it also allow users to add personal notes or details about each location, like opening hours or personal experiences?

Hadar Sharvit

@fanthus thank you for the feedback! the features you've mentioned - we're working on bringing them to users really soon automatically.

Kay Kwak

Absolutely. I’ve faced the same frustration. It’s convenient to save everything in bookmarks, but retrieving what you need later can be quite challenging. Wish you good luck with the launch! 🎉

@kay_arkain Thanks Kay!

This looks super handy but how does it compare to saving places in Google Maps?

Hadar Sharvit
Say you’re traveling to Tokyo when you find a blog post “top 15 things to do”. You could either manually add each recommendation to Google maps or share the entire blog to the app and it will automatically show the recommendations on a map for you.

What’s been the most unexpected or creative use case you’ve seen from early users?

Hey Product Hunt! 🚀 On my last trip to Thailand and India, I found myself constantly on the move—changing cities, hopping between islands, and switching hostels every few days. If you’ve ever traveled as a backpacker or lived as a digital nomad, you probably know how chaotic this can get. Planning a trip like this means digging through tons of content—articles, travel blogs, Reels, TikToks, posts, Reddit threads, Twitter (X), Facebook groups—you name it. And every time I found an interesting place, I had to save it manually—in Notes, bookmarks, a Google Maps list, or even by sending it to ״me and myself״ group chat. Honestly? It was exhausting. That’s why we built Locator — to save time and make trip planning effortless. I truly believe this app can help other travelers, foodies, and explorers like me, and I’d love to hear your feedback to improve. Can’t wait to see what you think! 🙌
